On a Sunny afternoon at The Salts

Seaford Ladies V Worthing Ladies Match Report 18/10/2015

On a Sunny afternoon down on the salts Seaford Ladies Rugby club took on Worthing in a friendly. The match started with dominating Seaford attack and the Worthing players held strong in defence, with some fantastic tackles, Seaford lost one of their players early on to concussion 5mins in leaving them with no subs for the rest of the game. Seaford took the lead from a fantastic Try from Lucy Stewart who went over, Lucy Diton then followed up with the conversion.
Seaford carried on from that try with fantastic pressure and following up with another try taking a 12-0 lead with Laura scoring a fantastic try and the conversion from a hard angle went wide of the post. Worthing came back from this try with fantastic pressure and dominated the game for the next 10 mins and then spilled over the try line to make the match 12-5 and missing the conversion from a really hard angle. Worthing continued to push on hard and you wouldn’t have been surprised for them to go in at HT with another try in the bag, but it was Seaford that went forward and just before HT went over and made the game 17-5 before HT with a fantastic driving run from Sharmella. Seaford went in at HT 17-5 up with a fantastic first half of attacking rugby and solid defence.
The second half kicked off and Seaford struck with an early try from Sharmella yet again and taking a 22-5 lead the conversion again from a tight angle just missing the posts. After this Worthing dominated the game going forward and some fantastic rugby and some pounding tackles from a solid Seaford defence, Seaford gave a way a penalty in kicking distance of the posts and the Worthing kicker stepped up but the kick went the right of the post. Worthing continued to dominated the game and the Seaford defence held solid and Worthing couldn’t find a way through with the game ending 22-5.
Seaford can take a lot from the game, not only where they clinical when they needed to be scoring early tries and gaining a solid lead, but also their defensive effort was fantastic and the team should be proud of that, especially following up from their fantastic win of touring side the Nuts and Jugs who they beat 41-0.
If you are interested in Rugby and fancy joining a team, Seaford train on a Wednesday from 7-9pm on the Salts, the team is a fun friendly group and its more about enjoying yourselves and having fun than it is about getting results.
