The Rise of Seaford RFC Super 7's.

Kevin Lewis

On Sunday 6th October Seaford RFC Under 7’s participated in the Hasting and Bexhill RFC Mini Festival. The Squad of 6 player who have only had 3 training sessions and never played together before the festival had the honour of playing in the first match of the day against Heathfield. In an end to end match with both teams scoring try after try Heathfield managed to get the final score to take the match 8 - 7.

At the start of the match Seaford look a little shy and nervous but by the end the rugby bug had bitten!
The team came off the pitch smiling and wanting to get straight back on for another game.

Next up for the Super 7’s was Crowborough 2’s.
Seaford started strong, scoring the first try of the match due to some fantastic passing after being tagged. The ball found its way out to the wing where Ellis Upton showed why he is the best rugby player in his family with an outrageous step to beat the final defender to score. Father and Coach Mike take note.
Crowborough showed their experience (as their players had all started playing together last season) and exploited the gaps left by Seaford bunching up to win this match 9 – 8.

Match 3 was the host Hasting and Bexhill.

Hasting started the match scoring straight from the start. Straight from the re start Seaford broke down the right wing with Riley who was tag just short of the line. The ball found its way to the step king Ellis who danced his way around the oncoming defence to score into the corner. This started a dominate display from the Super 7’s. Seaford regained the ball from a forward pass Riley broke down his favored right wing, where we all thought he had scored but was pulled back for a tag. The support form Ollie Booth to score.

Hasting restarted the game with a try to make it 2 all. Try 3 was scored by Riley who turned on the afterburners to run pass everyone to score 3 – 2 Seaford at Half Time.
Seaford started the second half with a great pass from Fin to Ollie who stepped his way through the Hasting team to score in under 8 seconds 4 - 2. Finley the teams tagging monster lead the charge at the restart tagging Hasting players left and right to force a forward pass.

Ball back to Seaford and a quick pass to Ollie saw the Super 7’s nearly getting to the line. Ollie managed to get the ball to the supporting Fin who dived over the line to score his first try of the day 5 - 2.

Hasting restarted the match and managed to cross the Seaford line 5 – 3.
The next scored cam for the Super 7’s from Joshua. Great work from the team in attack left Joshua in a wide-open space who with the biggest smile crossed the line in the corner to score 6 – 3.

Hasting scored again from their restart finding space out wide 6 – 4.
Seaford restarted and almost scored but the ball was dropped just short of the Hasting Try line, for a Hasting player to pick the ball up and run the ball in for another score 6 – 5.

With only 10 seconds left the game was finished with a try for Riley. A break from Fin saw him tagged but with a great pass out to Riley who blow the Hasting players away to make it a 7 – 5 wins for the Super 7’s.
A massive thank you to Julie who sent me the match video.

The final match was the local derby Eastbourne!

This was by far the best defensive display from the team. Whenever an Eastbourne player received the ball there was a Seaford player making the tag. This pressure lead to Eastbourne losing the ball over and over again and that allowed the Super 7’s to win this match 9 – 3.

A fantastic start for the Under 7’s 2 wins and 2 loses but everyone had fun and we are all looking forward to our next festival at Eastbourne on Sunday 13th October.
