Seaford Go Down FIghting

Seaford should feel encouraged by the way they played in spells following what has been a baron patch of results. Sadly Eastbourne’s set pieces were the difference as they dominated most scrums and saw Seaford miss-fire in the lineouts.

The contest began brightly with the game fizzing from one end to the other. The hosts were afforded a fortunate penalty following a spell of pressure and their outside half obliged putting his team in front. Soon after Seaford had a chance to level the score but the kick proved too difficult for the Scarlet’s Ben Cox.

With 20 minutes gone Eastbourne squandered an easy opportunity to double their advantage and Seaford reacted with a sustained spell of pressure. The game ultimately hinged on a moment in Eastbourne’s half. The Scarlet’s looked sure to score as Cox spotted a gap in the visitors defense, however he was unable to keep hold of Chris Burns pass and an Eastbourne back intercepted to run the distance of the field and score between the posts.

The first half ended with Seaford 10 – 0 down.

Ten minutes in, Seaford made a change in their front row with the returning Richard Foster making way for Matt Read, who seemed to immediately increase the tempo. Time and again Seaford failed to add the finishing touch and after 20 minutes of hard work, Eastbourne killed the contest off with an overlap and a score in the corner.

The score ended 15 – 0 but Seaford showed heart throughout and will feel reinvigorated for their trip to Hastings next Saturday.
